... notes and drawbarsettings randomly changing
Hi,
2 days ago I installed the fatarscan2 + keyboards in my custom organ. After updating Fatar scan core all worked fine.
Yesterday I changed remote settings (organ) to preset 2 (fatarscan) and wrote data to eprom for boot up, since than notes and drawbarsettings keep changing automatically, even more when I play on the keyboard (seems keys are sending different data..) Also different notes have different sound structure... I tried setting back in expander mode and disconnecting fatarscan2 board, but the issue remains. I also tried changing flatcables, but they seem fine.
any help is much appreciated,
thanks,
Alain

Re: ... notes and drawbarsettings randomly changing
... meanwhile I connected the PL9 and PL13. PL9 (upper) is working, and the random value changes for upper drawbars have stopped, (apparently the circuit needed be closed by PL9, but PL13 is not working , only bass & sustain drawbars, and the random drawbar value changes are still happening. I tried switching flatcables, did not help. ... ?...

Re: ... notes and drawbarsettings randomly changing
Hi Alain,
It will be hard if not impossible to help in any way if you do not tell us what your configuration looks like exactly. As it turns out now you had tried a setup without even connecting the drawbars. So what you got is randomly changing settings because of the inputs you left open, in other words randomly floating. That's the way it is. But nobody here was able to give a hint since you did not tell. If there is still random changes do you still have components unconnected?

Re: ... notes and drawbarsettings randomly changing
@happynotes
A "floating" can have different reasons.
The first thing to be observed is the fact if the needed IC s ( 4051 ) and other components just in front of the Drawbarplugs are mounted or not.
The HX 3 mainboard of older compact expander will not have these soldered components. So the electronic of HX 3 reads anything but no data from drawbars. It is just the same as not connected drawbars as Christian told in posting before.
The effect is just the same : connected drawbars without any electronics ( 4051 IC ) will have same result : FLOATING
So please tell us if there are mounted IC´s in front of drawbarplugs PL 9 and PL 13 or not, or just post a picture of Your board so we can see it.
Thanks

@happyfred :
I do have all drawbars (A-B sets) connected. I send a picture of my board (hope it is clear enough).
Thanks for your help.
best regards,
Alain

Re: ... notes and drawbarsettings randomly changing
@christian ,
Hi Christian,
yes I have all drawbarssets (a-b upper & lower) connected. Upper is working and floating on upper drawbars stopped, but lower drawbars do not work and lower drawbars values are still floating, sorry if my previous post was unclear. I still need to connect the expansion board (am waiting for cables) furthermore I have the panel 16 (1) connected and the menu panel. btw, the bass and bass sustain drawbars are functioning..
Thank you.
best regards,
Alain

Re: ... notes and drawbarsettings randomly changing
Hi Alain,
Your board is a new one (MK4 ) and all components mounted except the 26 pole plug für Extension Board
When upper drawbars now run and the bass & sustain from lower drawbar board too there must be a mistake on lower drawbar board
or in connecting flatcable or in section of HX 3 mainboard ie lower drawbars connecting plug. But You told You have changed the cables.
So first look at the both drawbarsets for the lower manual . One of these boards have mounted ICs 74HC4053 on bottom side of this board ie the IC´s are between print and drawbar potis. That means on one board You can feel the pins of those IC´s and on other board You see blank holes at that positions. The board with this IC´s must be connected to HX 3 board. For You have the bass drawbars too this board is normally the one to be connected. For it is so this board must also have the mounted IC´s on bottom side
If You have connected the other Drawbarset board there are no connections to the HX 3 main board via this plug. Result : lower is floating
The connecting plug for a set of A & B is always that board with mounted drawbar switching IC´s.
The bass & Sustain drawbars will always run even when wrong connection , because they are routed through all plugs of drawbar boards.
So there is no mistake on any board, You only have connected it in wrong way and at wrong plug of lower drawbar board.
As the upper section now runs You have there connected in proper way. Just do it with the lower drawbar boards.
If not clear just post a pic again

Re: ... notes and drawbarsettings randomly changing
Here a picture of correct connection Drawbar Boards together
Notice : Only that board with mounted 3 ICs on bottom side is the " output - board " for connection to HX 3 mainboard
It´s equal on which of the two boards for a manual these IC s are mounted. If they are mounted then this board is the output board.
NEVER the other board without these 3 IC´s ( 74 HC 4053 )
If You connect to board without the ICs You will have a FLOATING result - it can´t work NEVER EVER
ALL PLUGS of Drawbar boards are mounted on BOTTOM SIDE

Re: ... notes and drawbarsettings randomly changing
@happyfred:
yes indeed that was the problem. The IC was mounted in the B set, and I (wrongly) assumed the A set (with bass drawbars) was the one to connect to the board. All drawbars work now, (A sets upper-lower and bass-sustain) thank you so much for your help.
The only thing I do not get yet is how I can make use of the B-sets, preset "0" is the A set, but which one refers to B? is this a setting in remote or a jumper thing?... I only have one panel 16 to select A or B sets.(?) I would like to use the old B3 percussion switches for percussion so that on the panel 16 I could use the first 4 buttons as upper A B preset 1 & 2 and lower 1 B preset 1 & 2 (2 x 4sth 4 switches). Not sure if it is possible or how..
thank you again for your help,
best regards,
Alain
...so I did initially connect exactly as in the image you sent, but the ic is not mounted in the Lower A board in my case ;-)

Re: ... notes and drawbarsettings randomly changing
hi,
On the new Drawbar boards there is a resistor R 22 ( 22 kohm ) between IC 74 Hc 4053 pin 9,10,11 and "output" plug 45 pin 15.
The Pin 15 of plug 45 is at the new board the connection for switching the drawbarsets in each manual.
This only runs when You have real preset boards ( preset 12 for example )
If You have only a switch for chosing set A or B this resistor is not nessesary - unsolder him ( R 22 ) . You can connect Your switch A or B direct to plug 43.
BUT THIS SWITCH MUST BE A TWO WAY SWITCH !!!! If You only have oneway switch it will not work.
In this case see my next posting please
This 3pole plug is below the plugs for Amp122 and tonepot , resp beside the 3 bass drawbars on lower drawbar board.
So if You want to use the old Hamond switches just unsolder the resistor R 22.
For all components ICs 74HC4053 are soldered on bottom side this resistor will also be mounted on this side.
Shurely a problem to get him out.
normal way :
Find out the locaton of this resistor.
Demontage the plexi board in which all drawbars are mounted with screws. Unsolder only the drawbars in location area of the resistor
R 22 , so You can unsolder this resistor.
The resistor is just in area of drawbar 1 ´
Complete all do steps reverse without the resistor ;-)
Tricky way to get this resistor away from board :
Use a NEEDLE and soldering iron. When heated one pin of this resistor push this end with the needle through the hole.
Be careful ! then the other pin. The resistor will fall down on drawbars.
Than shake him out
Other way for the resistor is just above drawbar 1´ :
You can try to catch one end of the resistor with long small and very thin screwdriver shaft or needle, make this solder pin warm an pull him out of soldering hole.
The difficult is that all is behind the soldered plugs 45 and 46 on same bottom side and hard to see. If too difficult for You go normal way.
In any case of second usíng this resistor just solder him from TOP SIDE.
As knowing this I always solder this resistor from top side and never have any problems to unsolder
