Firmware 3.92 and FPGA 27012016 (also for XB2 mk2)
Firmware #3.92 was released on Jan. 29th., available on https://github.com/keyboardpartner/HX3/ ... ter/LATEST
Changes
* New filter and adder design, less prone to "crackling" overflow distortions
* Higher bass and plain organ output levels
* New triode simulation in AO28 block - try the AO28 tube age parameter
* Added version for old XB2 mk2 kit. Rotary output jack and headphone amp must be rewired to obtain stereo simulation
* Fixed some bugs in beta FW: Menu entries, defaults saving, factory reset
* Fixed rounding error on some parameters in MIDI custom CC set
* Extended transpose range plus/minus 2 octaves (FatarScan, MIDI input)
* Foldback for notes outside of 5 octaves keyboard range (FatarScan, MIDI input)
Firmware for old XB2 Kit mk2
As I recently had a XB2 mk2 with old kit for repair, I took the opportunity to review the firmware. Version 3.912 with new FPGA #27012016 is now available for download. It yields all features of new HX3 devices like improved split options and fresh sound engine.
However, for stereo rotary simulation output some hardware modifications are due:
Rotary simulation output jack of XB2 kit jack board is only wired in mono. Cut PCB tracks to "hot" rotary output jack pins and wire directly ro HX3 mainboard PL17 solder lugs. Rotary output is now stereo, so an Y- or stereo instrument cable must be used.
Headphone amp on old XB2 mk2 kit is only mono. Track below headphone opamp connecting pin 1 and 7 must be cut. Pins 1 and 2 must be wired through 1k resistor beneath chip to PL17 of HX3 mk2 board or to re-wired rotary output jack.
Very old kits also have a "shorting swell jack insertion" hardware bug; the plug shortens power supply when it is just inserted. Bend the "ring" switch "normally closed" contact down so it does not come into contact with "ring" tab. Or cut the track leading to "normally closed" pin.

Re: Firmware 3.92 and FPGA 27012016 (also for XB2 mk2)
Finally got time to update to FW3.92 and unfortunately it stubbornly refuses to show anything but FW3.851! The FPGA has updated without a problem but the FW stays at the old version. I tried both methods - via Flash and via the Remote - but nothing worked. The first try gave me 'out-of-sync', then a dialogue box telling me there were 26 Flash errors!. After that it updated the FPGA and said everything was fine so I Finalised and refreshed the info. No FW update...
Can anyone shed some light on the problem. I have the Mk3 Expander. Incidentally, it sounds really great so it's not a big problem, but I hate things that don't work as they should as it makes me think it's my fault! :-)

Hi Paul, the cause may be a Windows 'feature'. Please try renaming hx3_flash.exe to hx3_flash392.exe.

I tried renaming the Flash file but nothing changed. This was on Windows 7 pro. I then switched to Windows 8.1 and the update worked fine (it did show 1 minor error but appears to be working fine so far). So, a bit of a mystery Windows problem but it worked in the end.

Re: Firmware 3.92 and FPGA 27012016 (also for XB2 mk2)
Danke Carsten, endlich ganz herzlichen Dank!
leider einige Fragen!
Fehler im Command Fenster avrdude: stk500_recv<>:programmer is not responsing
avrdude: stk500_getsync(): attempt1 of 10:not in sync: resp=0x00 oder 0x25
herzlichen Dank!

Re: Firmware 3.92 and FPGA 27012016 (also for XB2 mk2)
When saving my upper or lower presets using the newest Remote application, the programme has no problem and I can save the files with a new name. These .csv files can be seen in the folder. However, when trying to import one of these preset files (or saved organ data) the new files are not seen by the Remote software as being available to import. They are just not there in the dialogue box.
The workaround was to rename my saved data as the original preset file i.e. hx3_lower_presets (or 'upper') and replace that file in the folder. They are then seen by the Remote as if they are the original files. Has anyone else had this issue? I use Windows 7, or 8.1, in VM Fusion on a Mac, but the problem is the same for both Windows versions. It has not been a problem previously and naturally it is better to save new presets with a unique name rather than having to overwrite the original. Is this a bug in the latest Remote programme?

Hello Paul,
If you rename your own preset files, and this makes sense, they have to start with "hx3...", so they will be shown in the select box.

Thanks Rolf, this does indeed solve the problem (the previous Remote didn't need the 'hx3' prefix so I hadn't thought about that).

Re: Firmware 3.92 and FPGA 27012016 (also for XB2 mk2)
