3.812/29062015 upgrade

Beitrag von lrblouie »

Hi Carsten,

I just upgraded to FPGA 29062015 and 3.812. The upgrade went well. I saw from another post that the licenses did not automatically restore with the Firmware Update but I entered them manually in the Advanced tab and it worked.

The problem is that now, when I start up the HX3 Expander, within about a minute or two the sound goes away completely. I have to unplug and replug to get the sound back and again within a minute or two the sound goes away. I re-installed both the FPGA and the firmware updates and I'm getting the same results.

What do you recommend?

Thank you, Luis.

I did install " FPGA 29062015" - hope that is OK - it was available in the 3.812 folder.

I did click the FINALIZE button as per the instructions. When I do that it displays about 4 lines/messages and the last one has the word "OK". However the Finalize button continues to stay enabled (meaning I can continue to click "FINALIZE" over and over). Prior to the upgrade, I thought that the FINALIZE button was disabled until I started upgrading!!!

Perhaps it is in "demo" mode but unfortunately the FINALIZE process may not be working.

This is the upgrade process I followed (Windows 8.1):

1) downloaded and extracted the HX3_firmw_3812.zip file
2) opened the HX3Remote within the extracted folder by right-clicking the exe file and selecting "Run as Administrator" (I do this out of habit)
3) clicked the "Update FW" button on the HX3 Remote software and selected the HX3mK3_Expander.hex file - (I do have the HX3 MK4 but there was no option for MK4 - perhaps this is the issue????)
4) upgraded the FPGA to 29062015 version
5) made sure the scan core was set to "MIDI Input" and then I clicked the FINALIZE button
6) I then noticed that there was no sound and noticed the licenses were set to "0" (I had expected that they would transfer through the upgrade). I entered the license numbers in the "Advanced Tab" and clicked "Send..." button and I then clicked the FINALIZE button again. At that point, the HX3 appeared to be fully functional except that after a minute or so, the sound turns off

I probably did something out of order that messed things up but I can't seem to get it straightened out now.

Any additional help is truly appreciated.

Kind regards, Luis

The last I can discover on "LATEST/readme.md" and the RAR file 3.812 is the above mentioned : fpga_25042015.bit
Last entry on readme.md file ...
Hi Ramon, sorry I did not answer your question directly - If you download the 3.812 ZIP file and extract it to your local drive, the FPGA 29062015 file is in that folder. When you also open the HX3 Remote from within that folder and click the Update FPGA button, there are two options that are available for selection, one of those is the 2906 file.

Hope that helps.

If you enter licence numbers manually in the Advanced page, click on "Send Licences" to store them on HX3. After this, green OK fields in board info section must be lit up. Otherwise, you're in demo mode. "Finalize" is always the last step when licences are indicated OK.

I'm working on an update-only version of HX3 Remote which automatically determines the needed firmware/FPGA file and restores all params so hassles with lost licences are gone.

Hi Carsten - thank you.

I got it working last night and here is what happened:

As of course you know, the unit came preloaded with lincenses. Before updating to 3.812 I wrote down the licenses and took a screenshot of the HX3 Remote app (as I knew there is an issue with the licenses being deleted when updating per another post I read). After updating I entered the license numbers in the "Advanced" tab and sent to the HX3. That is when the problem started.

This is how I determined the Leslie license was incorrect - A couple nights ago I removed the back plate to plug the power adapter directly to the HX3 board (because of the flickering on/off issues I'm experiencing) and I noticed there was a sticker on the bottom of the HX3 board with hand-written serial number and licenses. I noticed that the Leslie license number was different that what was pre-loaded (as per the HX3 Remote app). I entered the Leslie license number from the sticker and now it works. I do not know why the unit worked from the beginning with the incorrect license number; but it did! The HX3 always showed the Leslie with a dark green color (instead of light green like the organ license) but it had the word "OK" in it.

I have a couple comments on the 3.812 - hope it is helpful to you and the HX3 community:

- There is now a predominant frequency that is always audible (part of "leakage" perhaps?). This is as if the 1' drawbar was pulled out a little bit. Unfortunately it changes the tonality of the sound in a negative way. I can set the 1' drawbar to 0 but the sound is always there
- This may be outstanding from previous releases but the configuration for AudioJ A and B does not refresh properly on the screen. The settings being displayed ("Organ", "Amp", "Rotary", etc.) do not appear to be what is actually selected
- After the update, when starting the HX3 Remote and connecting to the device, the sound disappears completely. Unplugging the HX3 (or in my case, touching the power connector!!!!) reboots the HX3 and brings the sound back and then the HX3 Remote appears to work properly to change config settings on the unit
- If there is any possible way to add a parameter to attenuate the level of the "Organ" output setting, that would be extremely helpful. After the 3.812 upgrade, (could be my imagination but) it appears that the output level is less than before but unfortunately I still get clipping in my external rotary pedal. Even though it colors the sound I actually got used to using "Amp" output configuration as it allows me to reduce the level to eliminate the clipping in the rotary pedal - with 3.812 it sounds different now - I don't think this is a bad thing but did things change dramatically?

Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for your response. The HX3 is absolutely amazing and I am grateful for everything you do.

Kind regards, Luis.
