Hi,
I am building a hardware extension to the drawbar boards to drive the sliders by cheap DC motors (the ones used for vibration on cellular phones). The unit is midi-controlled so, in order to use a preset board and change automatically the physical drawbar configuration in each preset, I need that CC codes are transmitted to the HX3 midi output. I am almost sure that CC codes (drawbars, rotary control, switches) are sent, according to NI B4 table and selecting midi option 1 or 2, when moving controls in realtime. I would like to know if HX3 midi out sends CC codes, at least the ones related to the drawbar boards, also when I recall upper and lower presets. Can you help me, please ?

Hi,
As in User manual documented following Midi operations are possible:


MIDI Channel <1> - sets MIDI base receive channel 1 to 10 (upper manual, lower manual is on +1, pedals on +2).
MIDI Option <RcvSendMerge> - sets MIDI routing behaviour to

'ReceiveThru' (MIDI OUT is THRU, only valid setting on expander module, CC Receive enabled),
'ReceiveSend' (MIDI received, only own MIDI key events to MIDI OUT, CC Receive enabled),
'RcvSendMerge'(MIDI received, own MIDI key events and incoming MIDI events merged to MIDI OUT, CC Receive enabled) and
'RcvSndMgNoCC' (MIDI Key ON/OFF merged, CC Receive disabled, CC Send disabled, default on HX3 mainboards).

MIDI CC Set <NI B4> - sets recognized MIDI CC set to

'NI B4' Native Instruments B4 (default),
'Voce' MIDI drawbars,
'Hamichord' (or 'KeyB Duo' on special request),
'Hammond XK',
'Hammond SK' (Note: Hammond changed MIDI CC set between XK and SK series, so try out which will fit), or
'KeyB Duo'.

That means that no own CC Data from HX 3 itself will be send . Own CC Data is not generated
Only own MIDI KEY EVENTS and incoming MIDI EVENTS will be send after merging

If You use the new Drawbar Controller ( which sends NI B4 CC Data ) this will be merged with the key events from HX 3 an than to MIDI OUT

I read from wiki page "Using HX3 with MIDI controllers (section General)":

From firmware 3.82 and up, HX3 will not send own MIDI CCs on MIDI OUT when MIDI Option = 3 (RcvSndMgNoCC). MIDI Option = 3 is now default on all firmwares except HX3 Expander (which has to accept MIDI CCs). This change has been made since the MIDI CCs HX3 sends out may disturb connected MIDI workstations/arrangers. Note: If send/receive of MIDI CCs is enabled (Option = 1 or 2), HX3 will transmit its own CCs (drawbars etc.) always according to NI B4 set, independent from selected MIDI CC interpreter.

I understand that HX3 trasmits its own CC when Midi Option 1 or 2 is selected. Correct ?

Now the question at the end of my first message: does HX3 midi out send CC codes (at least drawbar position) when I recall upper and lower presets ? If not it would be a useful addition to the firmware.
