Tapering help

I would like to experiment with tapering but before randomly changing settings has anyone here any advice to give? I find (with my set up) the upper end of the keyboard to be just a little bit harsh/sharp so am I correct in thinking changing some tapering settings can help here? There are no help files available but I have no problem with experimenting/learning, especially as the original tapering data can be reset.
